The incident took place around 5:35 p.m. Thursday as the Yonkers resident was crossing the road near 63 Yonkers Ave. and was struck by a Jeep driven by a 35-year-old Yonkers resident, said Sgt. Jared Singer.
When Yonkers Police arrived on the scene they found the unidentified pedestrian lying on the street and a Jeep on the driver's side, both in the westbound lane of Yonkers Avenue, he said.
The man was transported to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The operator of the vehicle was also transported to a local area hospital where she was treated for minor injuries, Singer said.
A preliminary investigation found that the Jeep was traveling westbound on Yonkers Avenue, at which time it struck the pedestrian and then struck a parked vehicle, and rolled over on its side.
There are no criminal charges pending for the driver of the vehicle at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
